Ganesh Chaturthi Vrat

Occurring every Chaturthi tithi, Ganesh Chaturthi Vrat is observed by devotees who hope to gain blessings of wisdom, patience, good fortune and prosperity from Shree Ganesh Ji. Devotees keep their fast from sunrise to moonrise of the tithi, consuming a strict diet of only fruits, root crops and vegetables. The most significant Ganesh Chaturthi Vrat falls during Bhadrapad Shukla Paksh (indicated in bold type below), the day Ganesh Ji took on the form of Gajmukh Avtar.

Vrat vidhi for Bhadrapad Shukla Paksh Ganesh Chaturthi is as follows:

Devotees must place a murti of Ganesh Ji made of natural materials, such as clay, in their place for puja. During puja, devotees should offer prasad of Modak and 21 stems of green, flowering Dhurva grass. Take two stems of Dhurva at a time, and offer the grass to Ganesh Ji whilst reciting the following names: 1. Ganadhip | 2. Gauri Suman | 3. Agnaashak | 4. Ekdanth | 5. Ishputra | 6. Sarvasiddhipradha | 7. Vinayak Bhagwant | 8. Kumar Guru | 9. Ishwaktraaya | 10. Mushak-Vahan Sant |

The final Dhurva should be offered whilst reciting the following prayer: “Karo kripa mujh daas par, paap ke bhaar ananta.”

After this, offer 10 laddoos to Brahamans and consume 10 laddoos yourself.
